Quince Dessert Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 ekmek ayva (bread quinces)
  • 9 tablespoons sugar
  • 5-6 hibiscus flowers
  • 1 cup water
  • Whipped cream, whipped topping, or traditional cream for serving

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Peel and halve the quinces, removing the core bed.
  2. Place the quinces in a pot and sprinkle 1.5 tablespoons of sugar over each quince. 1 tablespoon will be sufficient as well.
  3. Place quince peels, hibiscus flowers, and a cinnamon stick between the quinces, then add water.
  4. Cover the pot and cook the quinces over low heat until they are half tender. Flip them over and cook for a little longer in that position. Keep the quinces covered in the pot until they cool down.
  5. As they cool, the quinces will both regain their shape and become slightly more reddish.
  6. Once cooled, add walnuts to the center of the quinces. Serve with whipped cream, whipped topping, or cream on top.
