Sekerpare Recipe
INGREDIENTS
For the dough:
- 250 grams of butter
- 150 grams of powdered sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 packet of baking powder
- 6 tablespoons of semolina
- 4 cups of flour
For the topping:
- A bowl of hazelnuts or almonds
For the syrup:
- 3 cups of sugar
- 4 cups of water
- 3-5 drops of lemon juice
Instructions
First, let’s knead the dough. Make small balls from the dough and place them on a baking tray. If possible, leave some space between them as they will expand while baking. Place a hazelnut or almond on top of each ball. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius for about 15-20 minutes until they turn golden brown and have a delicious crumbly texture.
The syrup should be prepared in advance and should be slightly warm. After removing the şekerpare from the oven, let it cool for 1-2 minutes and then pour the syrup over them while it is still warm. This allows the şekerpare to absorb the syrup better. Let them soak in the syrup for about 3-4 hours. You can decorate them with desiccated coconut or pine nuts before serving.
