Homemade Easy Borek Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • This measurement is for a large baking tray
  • 2.5 cups milk (half can be replaced with water)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar and salt
  • Sufficient amount of flour (for a soft dough)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Divide the dough into small mandarin-sized balls, you should have around 20.
  2. Pour vegetable oil into a bowl.
  3. Roll out each ball with a rolling pin, generously brushing them with vegetable oil in between.
  4. Let the oily dough balls rest for about 1 hour.
  5. Roll out the first 10 dough balls on the baking tray, flipping them upside down to fit the size of the tray.
  6. Place your desired filling on top, such as a minced meat filling which complements the borek well.
  7. Roll out the remaining 10 dough balls on the countertop and cover the filling, flipping them upside down.
  8. Seal the edges by pressing them downwards.
  9. Slice the borek.
  10. Brush about 1 teacup of melted butter on top and bake in a preheated oven at 170 degrees Celsius (338 degrees Fahrenheit) until golden brown.
