Bosnak Borek Recipe

Bosnak Borek Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 5 cups of pastry flour
  • 2 cups of warm water
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • Filling:
  • 125 grams of butter
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil (you can use only vegetable oil)
  • For the filling, you can use cheese, potatoes, or minced meat. I used cheese and parsley.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a mixing bowl, knead the flour, water, and salt until the dough is well combined. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for at least 1 hour.
  2. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into the size of a serving plate.
  3. Grease the bottom of a plate and stack the dough layers on top of each other, brushing butter or oil between the layers. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Take each piece of dough and lightly roll it with a rolling pin a few times. Then, start stretching the dough from the edges with your hands. Leave itat the point where it starts to tear.
  5. If the edges seem thick, press them down with a rolling pin to thin them out. Fold the edges of the stretched dough slightly inward and add the filling. Roll it up.
  6. Cut the rolled dough in half from the center and shape it like a rose borek. You will get 2 boreks from one sheet of dough. Brush the remaining butter on top of the boreks.
  7. Arrange the boreks on a baking tray and let them rest for 30 minutes. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C until golden and crispy.
