Walnut Crescent Dessert

Walnut Crescent Dessert

For the Syrup:

  • 3 cups water
  • 3 cups sugar
  • Quarter slice of lemon

For the Dough:

  • 125g butter (or margarine) at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 eggs (separate one egg yolk for brushing on top)
  • 1/3 cup finely ground walnuts
  • 1/3 cup semolina
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 packet vanilla
  • Approximately 2 cups all-purpose flour (add gradually until the dough reaches the right consistency)

For the Topping:

  • Reserved egg yolk

First, let’s prepare the syrup for the dessert. In a suitable saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and lemon slice. Boil for 10 minutes. After it starts boiling, squeeze the lemon juice and continue boiling for another 5 minutes. Then, remove from heat and let it cool.

For the dough, in a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients except for the flour. Gradually add the flour until you have a soft dough. Divide the dough into two equal parts and shape them into rolls.

Press down on the rolls gently to give them a crescent shape and cut them using a cup or a cookie cutter. Place the crescent shapes on a greased baking tray and brush the reserved egg yolk on top. Use a fork to create decorative lines on the dough.

Bake the dessert in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) until it is lightly golden brown. Once out of the oven, immediately pour the cooled syrup over the warm crescent desserts.

Let the desserts soak in the syrup completely. Once they have absorbed the syrup, sprinkle crushed pistachios on top and serve.

Enjoy your delicious Walnut Crescent Dessert!
