Spicy Bread
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup warm milk
- 1/3 cup warm water
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Salt
- Approximately 3 cups all-purpose flour
For the Spicy Filling:
- 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes (pul biber)
- 1 tablespoon pepper paste (biber salçası)
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Preparation:
Let’s start by preparing the dough. In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients except for the flour. Gradually add the flour while stirring until you have a soft and smooth dough. Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for 40 minutes, allowing it to rise.
In the meantime, prepare the spicy filling. In a pan, heat a little vegetable oil and sauté the finely chopped onions until they become translucent. Remove from heat and add the sesame seeds, chopped walnuts (if using), red pepper flakes, pepper paste, vegetable oil, salt, oregano, cumin, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
Divide the dough into small balls and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Gently press down on each ball to flatten it slightly. Spread about 1 tablespoon of the spicy filling on top of each dough.
Bake the biberli ekmek in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) until it turns golden brown.
Once out of the oven, let the bread cool slightly before serving.
