INGREDIENTS
- 500 grams of ground beef
- 1 onion
- 1 tablespoon of breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- Salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes
- Cumin, thyme (adjust the spices according to your taste)
- 4-5 medium-sized potatoes
For the sauce:
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 2 tablespoons of pepper and tomato paste
- Some hot water
For the topping:
- A few tomatoes
- A few peppers (hot or sweet)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Grate the onion and squeeze out the excess water. Add breadcrumbs and beaten egg, then mix well.
- Add ground beef and spices, then knead thoroughly. Let it rest.
- Peel the potatoes and slice them into rounds.
- Take walnut-sized portions from the meat mixture and shape them into ovals. Slice the onions into rings and place them on a baking tray.
- Arrange the potato slices on top of the onions and add the meatballs. Place quartered tomatoes and sliced peppers in between.
- Melt the butter for the sauce. Add the pepper and tomato paste and sauté well. Pour in some hot water and bring it to a boil. Pour the sauce over the meatballs.
- Wet a parchment paper and cover the tray. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius.
- Remove the cover and lightly brown the dish when the potatoes are tender.
- Serve hot and enjoy. A key tip is to knead the meat mixture thoroughly for a long time to ensure it sticks together and shape it before letting it rest in the refrigerator for a few hours.
Note: You can adjust the sauce and cooking time according to your preference.
